Mom and Dad made a big fuss over my new "schoolgirl" look. Dad thought it was amusing to see me wearing a plain uniform after all of the frilly outfits I had been wearing.

"Quite a change for you isn't it?" he joked as I crossed my legs to tighten the laces on my saddle shoes. "Although I must admit that you're still very feminine even in that uniform."

"There's a dance at the end of the month," Mom added helpfully, "I understand that the girls get really dolled up for it."

"Are you going?" Mom asked in her usual prying tone."It's supposed to be a big thing for the start of the year."

"I haven't decided yet, " I told her in as disinterested a tone as I could manage.

"You could wear your pink dress. The boys will go nuts when they see how pretty you look!"

I nearly choked on my cereal. The last thing I wanted to do was go to that dance, and I certainly didn't want to wear that dress.
